Writer's Block: Children of the sun

January 5th, 2011 (02:54 pm)

How do you think aliens would regard our society? If an alien ship landed in your backyard, would you run away or bring a bundt cake?

I thought this answer summed up my thoughts nicely, but I'm expanding on my opinion a little here.

I imagine they'd regard us with some mixture of disgust and pity. Hypothetically speaking, perhaps a "destructive phase" is common enough amongst sentient beings, and at best they'd just think we're going through ours.

That's at best though. At worst, we'd just see the disgust and not the pity. I wouldn't blame them.

Any alien that came here would likely be in danger. As K says in MIB, "a person is stupid - people are dumb, panicky animals". As a whole, we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves. The average, mundane person might not handle it well; the politicians would be trying to sweep humanity's dirty little habits under the rug; the hardcore religious and superstitious would either think their coming a sign of the apocalypse or some trick of the devil that must be destroyed.

As much as we've advanced, we're still coming to terms with the fact that we are not the top dogs of the universe. We don't like to acknowledge that we are insignificant and primitive - that we are nothing more than organic specks riding on a grain of sand in the grand scheme of things. To meet an alien species would bring us closer to that truth, and I think the reaction would be mostly negative.

If one did land in my backyard, I don't think I'd tell him/her/it to leave though. At least, not right away. I'd want to know if there's any way for our races to work together that they know of. Perhaps they could help us get out of our "destructive phase". I'd still warn them to be careful though. And if things seemed to be going well, I'd offer them food. Why not? Food is a good way to bond.

I guess that's about it.

Fan Expo 2010!

August 30th, 2010 (02:45 pm)

Fan Expo was wicked this year! I didn't do much in terms of autographs and such (like every year really, derp), but I still had a great time and the cosplay this year was incredible. And not just my cosplay that is, hee.

Here's my Photobucket album of the whole event. Brief descriptions/identifications are in the descriptions. If you have any questions/corrections/etc., feel free to post them here!

And here's a few of my Music Mistress costume: A one and a two, and a one two three four~♫! I'm aware of a few problems with it and the baton is lacking CDs, but that would be because they broke. 8D; Overall I'd say it's one of, if not the best costume I've made so far. :3 As mentioned in one of the picture descriptions, it's loosely inspired by this little dA fanart by Clazziquai, and the glasses were made possible by g0n3morganna's tutorial here, even though I didn't do it quite right. Also, much thanks to my mom for all the help and use of her kick-ass sewing machine. ♥

I'll do a more detailed, personal entry that'll be viewable to my flist a little later on. Enjoy!

Writer's Block: Back from the dead

January 24th, 2010 (02:07 pm)

If you could experience being dead for one day to learn what happens in the afterlife, and were guaranteed to return to life the following day, would you do it? Why or why not?

Well, if I'm guaranteed to be returned to life, why not? Even if there's nothing and I just have a hell of a nap, at least I'll know.
